What Happens in a Free Football Taster Session at Future 11?

“Free taster session please.”
“Can we come this Sunday?”
“Do you have space this weekend?”
“Can my 3-year-old try before we commit?”

We receive messages like this every week.

And it makes sense. As a parent, you don’t want to sign up straight away. You want to see how your child feels. You want to see how the session runs. You want reassurance.

That’s exactly why we offer a free football taster session.

Here’s exactly what happens, from the moment you arrive to the final whistle.

Why We Offer a Free Taster Session

Starting something new can feel big for a child. Especially if they’re:

  • 2 or 3 and trying toddler football for the first time
  • A little shy
  • Switching from another programme
  • Lacking confidence
  • Unsure if football is “for them”

A taster removes pressure.

There’s no long-term commitment. No awkward expectations. Just a chance to experience the session in a safe, friendly environment.

What Happens When You Arrive?

When you arrive at your chosen location (Sutton Coldfield, Lichfield, or Harborne), you’ll be greeted by one of our coaches.

We’ll:

  • Check your child’s name
  • Confirm their age group
  • Introduce them to the coach leading the session
  • Explain briefly how the class works

There’s no rush.

If your child needs a few minutes to warm up, that’s completely fine. Some children run straight in. Others observe first. Both are normal.

How the Session Is Structured

Every session follows a simple, age-appropriate structure.

For 2–3-Year-Olds (Toddler Football)

Sessions focus on:

  • Running with the ball
  • Basic coordination
  • Fun obstacle games
  • Simple shooting activities
  • Listening and following instructions

At this stage, it’s not about competition. It’s about movement, confidence, and enjoyment.

If you’re unsure which group your child belongs in, don’t worry — we’ll guide you based on their age and school year when you book.”.

For 4–6-Year-Olds

Sessions introduce:

  • Dribbling with control
  • Basic passing
  • Small-sided games
  • Fun team challenges

Children start understanding teamwork, but fun remains the priority.

For 7–12-Year-Olds

Older age groups focus more on:

  • Technique
  • Game awareness
  • Confidence on the ball
  • Match play scenarios

Many parents book a taster because their child “loves football but lacks confidence.”

What If My Child Is Shy or Has Never Played Before?

This is one of the most common worries.

You’ll often hear parents say:

“He’s never played before.”
“She’s not overly skilled.”
“He doesn’t always listen.”

That’s completely okay.

Our sessions are designed for mixed abilities. No one is singled out. No one is put under pressure. Coaches encourage gently and focus on effort rather than performance.

Some children need one session to settle. Others need two. That’s normal.

The goal of a taster session is simple:
Does your child enjoy it?

What Should My Child Wear?

You don’t need to buy anything special.

For a taster session, your child just needs:

  • Comfortable sportswear
  • Trainers (no studs)
  • A water bottle

We provide the equipment. Balls, cones, goals — all included.

Simple.

How Long Is a Taster Session?

Sessions typically run for:

  • 45–60 minutes depending on age
  • Structured, active time
  • Short breaks built in

Parents can stay and watch.

In fact, for toddler football sessions, your presence is often reassuring.

What Happens After the Session?

At the end of the taster, one of our coaches will:

  • Let you know how your child got on
  • Answer any questions
  • Explain availability
  • Outline next steps if you’d like to join

There’s no pressure to decide immediately.

Some parents sign up on the spot. Others take a few days. That’s completely fine.

What If There’s No Space?

We get a lot of messages asking:

“Do you have space this Saturday?”
“Is there a waiting list?”

Some sessions fill quickly, especially in Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield.

If a group is full, we’ll:

  • Offer the next closest time slot
  • Add you to a waiting list
  • Notify you when new classes open

We recently expanded classes in several locations due to high demand, so availability does change.

Can Siblings Try Together?

Of course, where possible.

Many families have two children in different age groups and prefer sessions running at the same time.

Also, we have a discount in place for siblings should you decide to sign up for our weekly classes.

If this applies to you, just mention it when booking. We’ll always try to accommodate where we can.

What Parents Often Tell Us After a Taster

We often hear:

“He didn’t want to leave.”
“She’s been talking about it all week.”
“He’s asking when Sunday is again.”

That’s when you know it’s working.

A great football session doesn’t just teach skills.
It builds confidence, friendships, and excitement.

Is a Free Taster Really Free?

Yes.

No hidden fees. No obligation.

It’s simply an opportunity for your child to try a professionally coached football session and see if it feels right.

Ready to Book a Free Taster Session?

If your child is:

  • 2 and full of energy
  • 3 and ready for their first football class
  • 5 and starting school
  • 7 and wanting more confidence
  • 10 and keen to improve

We’d love to welcome them.
